December 19, 2023 – New Orleans — In a significant development for public safety efforts in the City of New Orleans, District Attorney Jason Williams proudly announced the return of Retired Chief Michael S. Harrison to his hometown. Chief Harrison, renowned for his decades of service in law enforcement, signs with the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office as a Law Enforcement Affairs Liaison and Community Engagement Advisor. DA Williams, expressing enthusiasm about Chief Harrison’s return, stated, “Today, we welcome a distinguished son of our city back home. Chief Harrison’s wealth of experience and expertise will play a crucial role in advancing our shared commitment to public safety.”

Chief Harrison’s illustrious career includes over two decades as an officer and detective, culminating in his appointment as NOPD Superintendent and service as Commissioner of Police in Baltimore. He took the reins of both posts during times of historic challenges. Following his resignation from the Baltimore Police Department, Chief Harrison established MS Harrison Consulting, LLC., and was tapped by the Department of Justice as an advisor. His role as a consultant for the District Attorney’s Office aligns with the mission to support the NOPD and enhance collaboration between all law enforcement agencies.

Reflecting on Chief Harrison’s remarkable career, DA Williams highlighted his dedication, persistence, and commitment to public safety. Chief Harrison’s accomplishments, including implementing a consent agreement during his tenure as NOPD Superintendent, have earned him national recognition as a coveted advisor on law enforcement and community policing.

Chief Harrison shared his thoughts on returning to New Orleans, stating, “I am proud to be back home, working to make the City of New Orleans better. My goal is to leverage my experience and acquired skills to support the DA’s Office, and NOPD to strengthen collaboration between our offices and members of the community.

The press release outlined two key focus areas for Chief Harrison’s efforts within the District Attorney’s Office: 1. Law Enforcement Referral Review: Chief Harrison’s extensive background in law enforcement positions him uniquely to facilitate communication between the District Attorney’s Office and police officers, ensuring the quality and content of reports and referrals meet the highest standards. 2. Public Safety Intervention Review: Chief Harrison will contribute to the New Orleans Data Informed Community Engagement initiative, using his knowledge of the city’s urban infrastructure to optimize strategies targeting sources of violent crime and deployment of non-law enforcement resources. DA Williams concluded, “We are thrilled to have Chief Harrison on our team, and we look forward to the positive impact his expertise will have on our ongoing efforts for a safer New Orleans.”
