New Orleans, LA – The Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office has instituted charges in connection with a hate crime that took place in the French Quarter on July 1, 2024. The incident involved a male who was observed yelling racial slurs at African Americans and spitting on one individual.  

The suspect was promptly detained by the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) and now faces charges for LA RS14:107.2 Hate Crime; LA RS 14:35 Simple Battery, and 14:103.2 Disturbing the Peace. OPDA’s Hate Crime Unit funded by Bureau of Justice Assistant Grant ISPBJA-23-66-D5367-HATE., takes any form of racially motivated crimes very seriously and is committed to prosecuting this case to the fullest extent of the law.
