District Attorney Jason Williams Serves as Celebrity Guest Bartender at Molly’s at the Market, Highlights Need to Support Decatur Street Businesses During Ongoing Construction

NEW ORLEANS, LA — Wednesday, April 15, 2026, Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams stepped behind the bar at Molly’s at the Market, serving as a celebrity guest bartender and drawing attention to the resilience of local businesses along Decatur Street.

The event brought together community members, visitors, and service industry professionals for an evening that celebrated the culture, energy, and spirit that define New Orleans. While the atmosphere inside Molly’s was lively, the occasion also underscored a more serious reality facing nearby businesses.

Decatur Street Businesses Navigate Revenue Loss and Limited Access During Critical Season

Since mid-2025, a major roadway construction project along Decatur Street and surrounding corridors has significantly disrupted daily operations for local establishments. Ongoing work, expected to continue through spring 2026, has resulted in reduced accessibility, persistent construction noise, and visible barriers such as fencing and detours that have discouraged foot traffic.

Many businesses in the area have reported a substantial decline in revenue, with some experiencing a 30 to 60 percent drop during what is typically a critical season for tourism and sales. These challenges are compounded by the approaching summer months, which historically bring a slowdown in activity.

“Showing Up Matters”: DA Williams Calls for Support of Decatur Corridor

“The infrastructure improvements underway are important for the long-term future of our city,” said District Attorney Jason Williams. “But we also have to be honest about the impact this is having right now. Small businesses and service industry workers are feeling it every single day, and they are the backbone of what makes New Orleans move.”

Williams emphasized that this moment calls for intentional support from both residents and visitors.

“What Wednesday night showed us is simple. These businesses are still here. They are still welcoming people in. And they still need our support,” Williams said. “Showing up matters. Whether it is grabbing a drink, sitting down for a meal, or just spending time on Decatur, that support goes a long way.”

The Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office encourages community leaders and business advocates to support the service industry workers and establishments affected by the ongoing construction.
