NEW ORLEANS – Doubling down on his commitment to transparency, District Attorney Jason Williams released two additional data dashboards highlighting the work of the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office (OPDA). Hosted on OrleansDA.com’s Home and Increase Transparency pages, the new data dashboards track guilty pleas secured by OPDA and law enforcement referrals to OPDA.
“Through these data dashboards, my administration continues to provide unprecedented access into the New Orleans DA’s Office. From Day 1, we have been committed to restoring trust in this office by increasing transparency and openness,” said District Attorney Williams. “We look forward to continuing to take the public on the journey of understanding the work of this office and share information and data that provides important insight into what we are doing.”
The Guilty Pleas Data Dashboard dates back to 2020 and shows the number of cases and charges that resulted in a guilty plea. The information is sortable by lead charge category and age. Additionally, there is a date range tool that can be adjusted to evaluate changing trends over time. This information is presented as year-to-date for the current year; the dashboard is updated monthly. As the dashboard shows, OPDA secured 2,452 guilty pleas in 2020, 3,709 guilty pleas in 2021 and 573 since the start of 2022.
The Law Enforcement Referrals Data Dashboard shows the overall number of cases referred to OPDA by law enforcement as well as the demographics of the individuals referred in those cases, percentage of those cases that included a domestic charge and whether the referrals were for adult or juvenile cases. The information is sortable by lead charge category, felony or misdemeanor case and age. Additionally, there is a date range tool that can be adjusted to evaluate changing trends over time. The information is dated from March 2021 to present; the dashboard is updated monthly. As the dashboard shows, 88.4% of referrals have been for adults and 35% have been domestic in nature.
As part of the website’s launch last year, OPDA released its first-ever public-facing data dashboard, which tracks case screening decisions. This data dashboard examines how many cases OPDA has accepted and declined. According to the dashboard shows, OPDA has accepted 61.9% of felony cases since April 2021.
