Orleans Parish Jury Convicts Larry Pounds of Murder in Nolan Greathouse’s Killing
NEW ORLEANS — An Orleans Parish jury found Larry Pounds guilty of second-degree murder on September 24, 2026 in the killing of Nolan Greathouse, following an investigation and prosecution that brought together surveillance footage, cell phone data and corroborating evidence to establish what happened.
District Attorney Jason Williams and Homicide Unit prosecutors Forrest Ladd and Carlos Torres highlighted the work behind the verdict: securing critical evidence early, assembling a technically demanding case and supporting Greathouse’s family throughout the process.
“This team carried the responsibility of preparing and presenting a case about a life taken and a family forever affected,” Williams said. “I’m so grateful for the dedication and precision that you use in pursuing justice for Mr. Greathouse.”
On September 21, 2024, Greathouse was chased down Touro Street by a man carrying a rifle and fatally shot in the 1600 block following an altercation at a nearby bar. Surveillance footage showed the shooter continuing to fire after Greathouse had fallen to the ground.
New Orleans Police Department Detective Matthew Riffle secured footage of both the shooting and the earlier altercation. He followed up on information identifying Pounds and compared the recordings with an identification photograph, helping connect Pounds to the killing. Prosecutors combined that investigative work with cell phone evidence to present the case to jurors.
“These cases start at the NOPD. It starts with Detective Riffle and all of the work that he did collecting evidence,” said Assistant District Attorney Forrest Ladd. “And our case is really only as good as those pieces of evidence that initially get collected.”
Assistant District Attorney Carlos Torres thanked jurors for examining the facts and call detail records, while underscoring the human cost of the violence.
“The sad part is, is that it was just a group of people outside trying to enjoy the city, and a couple of minutes resulted in a tragedy,” Torres said.
Ladd and Torres prosecuted the case with support from trial assistant Erin Fuenning, victim witness advocate Debra Marshall and Investigator Elizabeth Garcia. Williams recognized the team’s preparation, its commitment to keeping the family informed and the jurors’ service.
Williams reaffirmed the office’s commitment to Greathouse’s family, acknowledging that their loss continues beyond the verdict. Sentencing is scheduled for November 6, 2026, before Judge Nandi Campbell in Section G of Orleans Parish Criminal District Court.
