OPDA Homicide Unit Secures Manslaughter Convictions in Separate Homicide Trials, Delivering Justice for Victims and Families

NEW ORLEANS — The Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office Homicide Unit secured two separate Manslaughter convictions during the week of May 16, 2026, holding two defendants accountable in unrelated homicide cases and continuing the office’s commitment to delivering justice for victims, families, and the people of Orleans Parish.

The convictions of Tyrone Dewey and Mia Lindsey represent the continued work of prosecutors, investigators, victim advocates, and law enforcement partners who remain committed to pursuing accountability through evidence-driven prosecution.

“These cases reflect the work that happens every day inside our Homicide Unit,” said Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams. “Justice is not simply measured by verdicts. It is measured by the commitment to victims, by standing beside families through unimaginable loss, and by the relentless pursuit of truth.”

Two Separate Cases, Two Families Seeking Justice

Jury Returns Manslaughter Verdict Against Tyrone Dewey in Killing of Errol Cutno

On the evening of June 9, 2022, officers responded to the area of Press Drive and located Errol Cutno suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. A trail of blood led investigators back to the residence of Tyrone Dewey. Cutno later died from his injuries.

During the investigation, Dewey gave multiple inconsistent statements regarding what occurred. He initially claimed a confrontation escalated into a struggle involving firearms, but his version of events repeatedly changed throughout the investigation.

Evidence presented during trial contradicted Dewey’s claims.

Surveillance footage captured Dewey pursuing Cutno as Cutno fled, undermining assertions of self-defense. Investigators also recovered spent shell casings and ammunition evidence linking Dewey to a firearm consistent with the shooting, though the weapon itself was never recovered. Gunshot residue testing further placed Dewey in direct connection to the shooting.

Jurors also heard incriminating statements captured on video after the shooting, as well as evidence suggesting attempts to conceal the weapon and alter the crime scene.

Following trial, the jury returned a verdict of Manslaughter.

Jury Returns Manslaughter Verdict Against Mia Lindsey in Fatal Bourbon Street Shooting

In a separate homicide case, jurors found Mia Lindsey guilty of Manslaughter in the fatal shooting of Christopher Oatts Jr.

On June 22, 2024, shortly after 4:00 a.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 600 block of Bourbon Street and discovered Christopher Oatts Jr. suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Surveillance video presented during trial showed a group walking on Bourbon Street prior to the shooting. Investigators determined a verbal altercation occurred moments before gunfire erupted.

Video evidence identified Lindsey as the individual who fired shots in the crowded area. Oatts, who was walking nearby, was struck and killed.

Investigators later tracked the suspect vehicle to Mississippi using intelligence resources and license plate technology. A coordinated effort with law enforcement partners led to a traffic stop and Lindsey’s identification. Additional evidence recovered from the vehicle further connected Lindsey to the homicide.

The jury ultimately returned a verdict of Manslaughter.

OPDA Homicide Unit Continues Mission of Accountability and Justice

The Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office Homicide Unit continues to aggressively prosecute violent offenders while standing alongside families throughout the judicial process.

Behind every case is a family forever changed by violence and a team committed to seeking justice on their behalf.

“Every family deserves to know that their loved one’s life mattered and that violence will not simply become another statistic,” Williams said. “Our Homicide Unit continues to pursue accountability with urgency and purpose because public safety requires both compassion for victims and consequences for those who commit violence.”
