The Domestic Violence Screening Unit of the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office is a dedicated and experienced team that strives to keep domestic violence victims safe and hold abusers accountable

The DA’s Office Domestic Violence Unit is housed at the Family Justice Center, a one-stop shop for victims of domestic violence. This partnership assists victims in receiving services and resources that will impact their lives and the lives of their families.

Since taking office, DA Jason Williams has tripled the size of the DV Unit, which now includes Assistant District Attorneys, Investigators, Screening Assistants, Victim Advocates, and an Intervention Case Manager. DA Williams and the DV Screening Unit have implemented new programs to identify cases where survivors are at significant risk of harm when the offender is released on bond and to address the safety concerns of those survivors more effectively. They are also developing and implementing programs designed to educate and assist survivors of domestic violence, along with creating alternatives to prosecution for some abusers. These alternatives aim to address potential underlying causes and conditions to prevent the recurrence of these crimes.
