The Domestic Violence Screening Unit of the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office is a dedicated team committed to protecting domestic violence victims and ensuring that offenders are held accountable.
Located within the Family Justice Center—a comprehensive support hub for domestic violence survivors—the DA’s Domestic Violence Unit collaborates with partners to help victims access crucial resources and services that positively impact their lives and those of their families.
Since taking office, DA Jason Williams has significantly expanded the Domestic Violence Unit, tripling its size to include Assistant District Attorneys, Investigators, Screening Assistants, Victim Advocates, and an Intervention Case Manager. Under DA Williams’ leadership, the unit has introduced new programs focused on identifying high-risk cases where survivors may face imminent harm if the offender is released on bond, thereby better addressing safety concerns for those at risk. The team is also developing programs to educate and support domestic violence survivors, as well as creating alternative interventions for certain offenders. These alternatives aim to address underlying issues to prevent repeat offenses, providing a proactive approach to breaking the cycle of domestic violence.
