District Attorney’s Office Secures Guilty as Charged Verdict Against Anthony Green for 2020 Rape

New Orleans, LA — On Thursday evening, following a four-day trial, a Orleans Parish Jury returned a guilty verdict, representing another significant victory in OPDA’s ongoing efforts to combat violent crime. The conviction of Anthony Green for first-degree rape and home invasion underscores the relentless pursuit of justice for survivors of sexual violence and the unwavering commitment to holding sexual predators accountable.

During the trial in Orleans Parish Criminal District Court, OPDA prosecutors presented clear evidence that Green raped a woman on April 21, 2020, after approaching her on Joliet Street. Assistant District Attorneys William Dieters and Chief of SAKI Division Mary Glass, along with a skilled trial team, methodically outlined how Green used violence and intimidation tactics, including displaying a tattoo symbolizing violence, to terrorize and assault the victim.

In an emotional and damning closing argument, SAKI Chief Mary Glass argued convincingly why there was no doubt of Green’s guilt, stating: “The defendant knew the victim was home alone, and he attacked every vulnerability. The defendant didn’t need a weapon. He has the element of size. He had the element of surprise. And he had the element of shock. The victim had nowhere to go.”

This conviction is the latest in a focused effort to address violent crime, particularly sexual violence, within our community. The Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office is equipped with in-house expertise and utilizes the latest best practices to pursue justice and ensure the safety of all residents.

The OPDA trial support team of Trial Assistant Rachel Chimeno, Advocate Ariel White, and Investigator David Benelli was bolstered by veteran NOPD Sgt. Christopher Avist, who left no stone unturned in their investigation and preserved crucial evidence, without which this conviction would not have been possible.

While challenges and obstacles may arise during the prosecution process, the District Attorney’s Office remains resolute in its dedication to following the evidence and removing predators from our streets.

Criminal District Court Judge Robin Pittman, who presided over this case, has scheduled sentencing for April 24, 2024 in Section F.
