District Attorney Jason Williams Announces New Grand Jury Indictment For Murder

NEW ORLEANS – Today, District Attorney Jason Williams announced an indictment in a case involving violent offenses in New Orleans. The Orleans Parish Grand Jury indicted Khutbi Abdelkader on one count of Second Degree Murder with a Firearm.

“There is a current crime surge in New Orleans, but we are surging back. These indictments are very important steps in holding violent offenders accountable and delivering justice to make our neighborhoods safer,” said DA Williams. “This office has been and will continue to be laser-focused on violent crime and doing everything we possibly can to increase safety and secure justice.”

KHUTBI ABDELKADER CASE

Abdelkader was arrested for the murder of Anthony Francis. According to reports, the incident took place in May 2021 on Canal Street. Abdelkader was indicted on one count of Second Degree Murder with a Firearm.

These indictments follow the most recent special grand jury indictments of Keyhaid McGee, Ivory Grant, Camron Bryant and Larry Winbush for conspiracy to commit armed robbery with a firearm and 11 counts of armed robbery. According to the NOPD reports, the defendants participated in 8 armed robberies in a single day across a number of neighborhoods in New Orleans including Uptown, Gentilly and St. Roch. In addition to correcting the sins of the past in a criminal legal system that has led to mass incarceration and wrongful convictions, District Attorney Williams has committed to prioritizing violent, serious crimes occurring in New Orleans. In 2021, the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office secured over 70 Grand Jury indictments and secured guilty pleas in over 1,700 cases, with 3,000 charges resulting in guilty pleas. These indictments are proof positive of a commitment to increase safety, and the OPDA looks forward to continuing to secure justice for victims and families.
