District Attorney’s Office Accepts 75.9% of Felony Cases in the Past 3 Months

NEW ORLEANS – Over the last three months, the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office (OPDA) has accepted over 75.9% of felony cases including murders, robberies and gun crimes. District Attorney Williams has made a commitment to holding violent offenders accountable; the felony case acceptance rate is proof positive of that commitment.

District Attorney Jason Williams said, “Despite what you may hear about this office, we are working hard every day to increase safety and hold violent offenders accountable. We remain laser-focused on violent crime and will continue to do everything in our power to secure convictions against those looking to wreak havoc in our neighborhoods.”

OPDA remains committed to accepting and prosecuting cases with evidence and will never deter from that. Every decision OPDA makes will be constitutional and ethical; this office will work with other law enforcement partners to ensure our office has the required reports and evidence to ensure the correct offenders, who do harm to our families, are held accountable. This constitutional and ethical prosecution will increase safety and restore faith, trust and participation from the public in helping law enforcement solve more cases and deliver prosecutions that make our neighborhoods safer.

In December 2021, OPDA launched a brand-new website, which included a public data dashboard designed to show unprecedented transparency in reporting. This dashboard is updated monthly and allows the public an opportunity to see the work being done in the DA’s office.
