District Attorney Jason Williams Announces Indictments in Several Cases Involving Violent Offenses in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS – Today, District Attorney Jason Williams announced indictments in several cases involving violent offenses in New Orleans. The Orleans Parish Grand Jury indicted Steven Grant on one count of Attempted First Degree Rape, one count of Second Degree Murder and one count of Attempted Second-Degree Murder, and Dalton Bennett on one count of Second Degree Murder with a Firearm and two counts of Attempted Second Degree Murder with a Firearm. Additionally, Desmond Douglas was indicted on one count of Second Degree Murder and Wilbert Jefferson was indicted on one count of Second Degree Murder with a Firearm, one count of Attempted Second Degree Murder with a Firearm, one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm and one count of Obstruction of Justice in a Homicide Investigation.

“There is a current crime surge in New Orleans, but we are surging back. These indictments are proof positive of our commitment to holding violent offenders accountable and delivering justice to make our neighborhoods safer,” said DA Williams. “This office has been and will continue to be laser-focused on violent crime and doing everything we possibly can to increase safety and secure justice.”

STEVEN GRANT

Grant was arrested for the murder of a victim and attempted murder of another victim in November 2021 in the 7th Ward of New Orleans. Additionally, he was indicted on a charge of Attempted First Degree Rape for the victim that was murdered.

DALTON BENNET

Bennett was arrested for the murder of Danielle Fox as well as the attempted murder of two other victims. This took place in July 2021 in Central City New Orleans.

DESMOND DOUGLAS

According to reports, Douglas was arrested for the murder of Floyd Jackson in December 2021 in New Orleans East.

WILBERT JEFFERSON

Jefferson was arrested for the murder of Devante Jefferson and the attempted murder of a second victim in August 2021 in the 7th Ward of New Orleans. Additionally, Jefferson was charged with Obstruction of Justice in a Homicide Investigation as well as Felon in Possession of a Firearm after being convicted of aggravated robbery in Texas.
