DA’s Office Announces Guilty Plea For The Murder Of 18-Year-Old Edna Karr Student-Athlete, Keyron Ross

NEW ORLEANS –

The Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office (OPDA) secured the conviction via guilty plea of defendant Tyrese Carter for an incident that took place in the 3800 block of Texas Drive in Algiers New Orleans. Defendant Carter received a 40-year maximum sentence for the homicide with an added 10 years for obstruction of justice.

“Our City’s troubled relationship with the plague of gun violence, which consistently endangers the future of our youth, is reflected in this conviction,” said District Attorney Jason Williams. “The heart-wrenching loss of Edna Karr student Keyron Ross to senseless violence profoundly impacted our community. It is imperative that we unite in our efforts to create a safer future for our city by curbing the proliferation of guns and saving lives. This requires the collaboration of various stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies, community organizations, policymakers, and community members themselves. The people of New Orleans can rest assured that their DA’s Office remains steadfast in its commitment to combatting crime through this conviction and others like it, ensuring that those responsible for violent offenses are held accountable. My deepest prayer is that justice, achieved through this conviction, will bring solace and peace to the Ross family and the entire Edna Karr High School community.”

According to the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) reports, Ross was murdered, while sitting in his vehicle, on January 26, 2021 in the 3800 block of Texas Drive. On February 7, 2022, Carter surrendered to the NOPD.

The trial took place in Section I of Criminal District Court; Judge Raymond Bigelow, Pro Tempore presided. The defendant faces up to 50 years in prison.
