Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office and The Blood Center Host Annual Holiday Blood Drive, Strengthening Community Health Through Service and Partnership

NEW ORLEANS, LA — Tuesday, November 25, 2025, The Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office, in partnership with The Blood Center, successfully hosted its 2nd annual Holiday Blood Drive. This yearly tradition continues to grow into one of the office’s most meaningful acts of service—bringing together OPDA employees, public safety partner agencies, and community members to donate blood during one of the highest-need periods of the year.

District Attorney Williams emphasized that the drive represents more than a one-day event; it is a clear demonstration of what public safety looks like when a community comes together with a shared purpose.

“Public safety is not only about the cases we prosecute, but about how we lift one another up,” said DA Williams. “Yesterday, we saw people from all corners of our justice system — prosecutors, police officers, public servants, community partners — standing side by side to give the gift of life. That is what true collaboration looks like. That is how we build a healthier, safer New Orleans.”

The Holiday Blood Drive has become an annual moment of unity for the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office, one that aligns directly with the office’s mission: protecting life, supporting families, and strengthening New Orleans through collaborative action.

Past partnerships with The Blood Center have resulted in hundreds of units collected. Yesterday’s strong turnout continued that legacy, with donations expected to help save lives across Southeast Louisiana — from trauma patients to those battling chronic illnesses, undergoing surgery, or waiting for emergency transfusions.

The impact is immediate and profound. In many cases, donated blood reaches a patient within 48 hours.

“Every bag of blood collected represents a second chance for someone — a child in the ICU, a parent recovering from surgery, a gunshot victim fighting to survive,” Williams continued. “Our employees understand the gravity of that impact, and they step up year after year.”

Yesterday’s drive showcased the strength of the partnerships OPDA has built in recent years — partnerships rooted in transparency, trust, and a shared investment in the well-being of the city.

Representatives from NOPD, city agencies, local nonprofits, and neighborhood organizations joined OPDA staff in donating. Many brought colleagues and encouraged others to participate, reflecting a spirit of unified service that transcends departmental lines.

This is the same network of collaboration that fuels OPDA initiatives like NODICE, cold-case review partnerships, community-based violence reduction efforts, youth program expansion, and survivor-support services. Yesterday, that same network came together to contribute to a different kind of lifesaving mission.

“When the people who protect this city show up in this way — not just in uniform or in court, but as neighbors and volunteers — it strengthens the trust that communities place in us,” Williams said. “It demonstrates that we are committed to protecting life in every sense of the word.”

The Blood Center reports that holiday seasons often bring a steep decline in donations, even though the need remains constant — or increases. Factors like travel, family obligations, and winter illnesses typically lead to reduced turnout citywide.

Yesterday’s participation from OPDA and its partners helps fill that critical gap.

The Blood Center leadership expressed deep gratitude for OPDA’s annual commitment, noting that these seasonal drives contribute significantly to maintaining the emergency blood supply for hospitals throughout the region.

Because of yesterday’s effort, people the donors will never meet will live to see holidays, family gatherings, and milestones that might otherwise have been lost. And that impact — quiet, profound, and immediate — reflects the very best of public service.

“The justice system is at its strongest when we serve with compassion, humanity, and unity,” Williams added. “Yesterday’s blood drive was another example of the incredible things we can accomplish when we show up together.”
