Orleans Parish District Attorney Appoints Jessica Strange as the New Hate Crimes Community Liaison

New Orleans, LA—Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason R. Williams formally announced the appointment of Jessica Strange as OPDA’s Hate Crimes Community Liaison. Jessica officially took her post on January 5th of this year, and immediately hit the ground running. This position plays a pivotal role in addressing the needs of communities affected by hate crimes and ensuring a dedication to justice and compassionate outreach to vulnerable communities. The District Attorney’s Office received funding to hire a Hate Crimes Community Liaison through the Bureau of Justice Assistance’s (BJA) Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Program, Award Number: 15PBJA-23-GG-05367-HATE.

Jessica has an extensive background in community relations and advocacy. She will lead efforts to build credible lines of communication and trust, as well as provide essential support and resources to victims of hate crimes. Ms. Strange is committed to ensuring that victims are informed about how to report hate crime incidents and understand their rights within the legal system.

In her role as Community Liaison, Jessica will also work with prosecutors and subject matter experts to implement educational initiatives aimed at local organizations, schools, and businesses. Through workshops and programs, these efforts seek to cultivate an atmosphere of inclusion and understanding within communities throughout Orleans Parish, reinforcing the District Attorney’s unwavering commitment to equity and respect for all individuals.
